Product Design

Product design that turns a clear opportunity into a resolved, buildable product — from early concept and form exploration to 3D development, prototyping and production-ready information.

About this service

From product opportunity to production-ready design

Design Time Studio develops physical products, furniture and objects for brands, property teams and independent founders. We combine creative direction, functional thinking and detailed 3D development so decisions can be reviewed before tooling or manufacture begins.

The work is structured in five stages, from the first brief to a resolved product package. We agree the scope at the start, then share clear options and deliverables at every review point.

01

Stage one

Product brief & opportunity

We define the intended user, context, key requirements and business goals. Early references and form directions establish what the product should do, who it serves and how success will be judged.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

  • A concise product brief, target-user profile and project success criteria.
  • A summary of use context, market references and key functional requirements.
  • A design constraints checklist covering dimensions, materials, cost targets and production assumptions.
  • A concept direction for materials, lighting and atmosphere, set out as a written note.

02

Stage two

Form, function & 3D development

We refine the selected direction through proportions, ergonomics, materials and key interactions. The product is developed in 3D so its form, components and assembly can be reviewed together before a physical prototype is commissioned.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

  • Refined product form and 3D model views from agreed angles.
  • Key dimensions, materials and component relationships for review.
  • Visuals or simple animations showing how the product is used.
  • A design review package recording the selected direction and open decisions.

03

Stage three

Prototype & validation

Before anything is built, the agreed design is set out as a small number of 3D views. These are created by hand in ArchiCAD by the studio's artists, not generated by AI, and are based on the real materials and products that have been selected for the project.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

  • A prototype plan with recommended fidelity, material and testing approach.
  • 3D visuals or a physical prototype, according to the agreed scope.
  • A structured review of fit, usability, appearance and assembly.
  • A record of feedback, design refinements and remaining technical questions.

Prototype fabrication and user testing are scoped separately with the client and selected suppliers.

04

Stage four

Materials, finish & production direction

Materials, finishes and key furniture items are selected for the project, working from the agreed concept and drawings. Each may be listed with a product or supplier reference, where one has been selected and is available, so the homeowner, builder and joiner are working from the same information.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

  • Material, finish and colour direction suited to the intended product and market.
  • Recommendations for manufacturing approach, components and supplier coordination.
  • A materials and furniture schedule that the homeowner, builder or joiner can use as a reference for pricing and ordering.
  • Production-ready visual references for internal review and supplier discussion.

05

Stage five

Full project accompaniment

We prepare a clear handover for internal teams or manufacturing partners. The level of engineering, testing, supplier coordination and production support is defined to suit the project and agreed separately.

What you receive

  • A consolidated product design package reflecting the approved direction.
  • Final 3D views and agreed design files suitable for review and handover.
  • A summary of materials, finishes, components and production assumptions.
  • Optional coordination with suppliers and follow-up refinements by agreed scope.

If you would like to talk through a project

A short note about the home, the rooms in question and the stage the project is at is enough to start a conversation. Each enquiry is reviewed by the studio.
